PS3 Firmware 3.21

PS3 Firmware 3.21 will be released this Thursday, 1st April which instead of giving PS3 users something it seems like Sony are taking something away from us, not that i used the feature so i dont really mind.

The firmware will remove the option to "install other OS" due to security reasons - probably because of the hack made on the PS3. Obviously you can opt out of updating your PS3 but this means the following features will not be available:

* Ability to sign in to PlayStation Network and use network features that require signing in to PlayStation Network, such as online features of PS3 games and chat.
* Playback of PS3 software titles or Blu-ray Disc videos that require PS3 system software version 3.21 or later.
* Playback of copyright-protected videos that are stored on a media server (when DTCP-IP is enabled under Settings).
* Use of new features and improvements that are available on PS3 system software 3.21 or later.

So really you dont have a choice.

Wow. FUCKING WOW! This is actually a legitimate update which is live right now. Sony issued an update to REMOVE a feature from the PS3. Let the lawsuits begin.

Pfft - care factor is definitely a negative 6 on this one. It's not like they included a fee-based PSN add-on or anything. Has anyone on this forum replaced the XMB with another OS? Seriously?

You don't replace it. It's like running a multiboot setup on your PC. I have Linux on my PS3 and I use it almost on a daily basis. I'm not updating.
